Blagozilla vs. Mecha-Mell

Incredibly, they're still going at it, with Blagojevich's fund-raiser, Chris Kelly, threatening to sue the Governor's father-in-law for slander.

On the other hand, Attorney General Lisa Madigan (Democrat, new mother [congratulations] and daughter of Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan, who has had some clashes with the Blagojenator before) is apparently investigating Mell's allegations along with the Cook County State's Attorney. Blagojevich has promised to investigate himself, via his inspector general, to clear his name. This is a move which Jim Muir, writing in the Southern Illinoisan, rightly compares to former Governor George Ryan's "investigation" to prove he was innocent of the licenses-for-bribes accusations.

Ryan's inspector general wound up in a a federal prison, and Ryan is expected to go to trial in March. Then there's that $10-billion bond deal which, as I understand it, the Feds would like to have a word with Blagojevich about.
