It Takes A Village

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki lashes out at Western imperialism...by Democrats.
Iraq's beleaguered prime minister on Sunday lashed out at American critics who have called for his ouster, saying Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Carl Levin need to "come to their senses."

"There are American officials who consider Iraq as if it were one of their villages, for example Hillary Clinton and Carl Levin."
Captain Ed says of the comments: "In a way, they came across as the worst kind of colonialist claptrap."

I don't think there's really "a way" about it. Liberals complained about violating Iraq's sovereignty in the leadup to the war, and now they seem to think they should be endorsing politicians in allied governments?

Of course, al-Maliki may not be entirely aware of this, but if Hillary Clinton tried to set policy for any of "her" villages in New York, she would likely get exactly the same response.

Even more embarrassing for Clinton and Company is that al-Maliki's government have made major breakthroughs during their August recess.

It doesn't matter how dramatically the underlying premises change: The Democratic conclusions remain the same. That should be a warning sign.
