The Straw Universe Argument
I think Christopher may be onto something.

Again we have another failed attempt by leftists to win a discussion through their pet logical fallacy "Argument by Fantasy", the cousin to the Strawman fallacy, wherein, instead of creating a false argument to knock down, they create a false universe where all the evidence for their positions lies.

A parallel dimension where facts that support their view are true and where history actually happened as they said it did would explain a lot. An alternate "liberalverse" would, in fact, clear up a lot of the confusion surrounding Ra^thergate and the liberal media.

Any good liberal knows, after all, that the media is a shill for super-conservative billionaires and even though the vast majority of Washington journalists describe themselves as Democrats they're propaganda mouthpieces for the White House which is under Zionist control. The Killian memos are perfectly legitimate because all the forgery evidence is implausible and the speculation focuses on superscripting.

Now, to any rational person, Dan Rather's desperate defense of the memos, the Boston Globe and others lying to cover up for him, and then subsequently finally having to admit they're forgeries might kill even the slightest fantasy, but we can quickly clean that up by saying that the GOP planted the memos knowing they'd be revealed as frauds to make Kerry look bad. Who needs intellectual honesty when you've got circular logic and conspiracy theories that cannot possibly be proven, but which are so convoluted that any debunking can be refused?

This leads us right back to yesterday and the thousands of Iraqi non-terrorist "revolutionaries and minutemen" "taking up arms" to "resist the occupation" and "defend their homeland" who cannot, based on even a cursory examination of this universe's entire supply of facts, possibly exist. Therefore, the solution is clear: Glean your ideas from the Liberalverse, and you're home free! It doesn't matter that they're proven to be foreigners targeting Iraqi civilians, they're Iraqi civilians targeting foreigners!

(This is also how John Kerry's speechwriters work.)

After all, if the 5 Jew bankers control all the world media, the numerous pro-Coalition Iraqi bloggers are actually CIA disinformation operatives, and there's a conspiracy to keep the super-far-left truth of the world away from the people, the world can be anything you feel, and you don't have to prove it.
