Blagojevich returns to California, minus his Royal Escort.
Gov. Rod Blagojevich trekked to California this week on his first out-of-state fund-raising trip since overhauling his security detail in the wake of heavy criticism about its size and expense.

With a security detail consisting of one state trooper -- as opposed to a dozen who went on previous trips -- the governor spent Monday and Tuesday in the Los Angeles area raising money for his campaign fund.
This State Trooper is presumably code-named "Tanto".
The governor did not take a state plane and his security detail did not drive a car across the country to meet him. Rather, he flew on a commercial flight and rented a car while in California.
Seems like just a month or so ago, when Blagojevich was asked what it was like going to Iowa without his usual entourage and fanfare, he made a sad face and lamented "Nobody knew who I was."
"Since we've had the blowup about it, this is the first trip under the new rules and they were all adhered to," said Pete Giangreco, a spokesman for the governor's campaign fund, Friends of Blagojevich.

In addition to the Illinois state trooper, the governor was accompanied by a member of the California Highway Patrol, which the state offers as a courtesy to visiting governors, Giangreco said.

Details about who attended the fund-raiser were not available, and Giangreco said the amount of money raised was still being tabulated Wednesday.

State election records show Blagojevich has raised at least $670,000 from California-based contributors over the past several years.
Frustrated California liberals, having lost their own state to the Governator, feel the need to help destroy ours?
According to recent reports, Blagojevich had $10.2 million in his campaign account heading into the 2006 election season. The report showing the governor's year-end fund-raising total for 2004 is due to be released within the next week.
It's going to be a long, hard slog if a strong GOP candidate doesn't turn up.
